South East Hants Wednesday Walkers
The Wednesday walkers from the group recently
passed by the stone on the Shoulder of Mutton, just north of Petersfield,
that commemorates the war poet Edward Thomas. The 14-mile circular
walk from Petersfield Pond took in Ridge Hanger, Warren Corner,
Hawkley and Oakshott, and was led by John Clements.

Denmead Festival
The group had a stand at Denmead festival on
Saturday 27 May. The festival attracted a very good attendance
- it also included a farmers market - and our volunteers on the
stand were kept busy providing information about RA walks programmnes
and RA activities in general. There was particular interest in
the SE Hants evening walks that are held every Tuesday and Thursday
from mid-May to mid-August, these are shorter walks (4-6 miles)
that are suitable for people who want to start walking.
We were also approached by one of the farmers,
with a request. He said that he was happy to welcome walkers on
his farmland, but when he came across them in his Land Rover on
narrow lanes the group invariably split in equal numbers left
and right along the sides of the lane, making it difficult for
him to pass the group safely. He asked if the group members could
all move to the SAME side of the road!
